Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.
The previous coach was sacked on the weekend following the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.
Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous associations to the team - are part of the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
Edwards is presently at another club, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.
However the former Luton head coach - who made over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of hiring a new manager.
O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.
The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
