Man Utd Manager Amorim States He Can't Run From Poor Performance
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim feels the stress during their 3-1 loss at Brentford
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim admits he cannot conceal from his poor performance and says it is understandable that club icons are questioning him.
Recently, the club's record scorer Wayne Rooney stated on his show that "the heart has disappeared" from his old club.
Amorim has managed just 18 wins from his 49 matches in charge, including nine out of thirty-three in the English top flight, where he has still to secure back-to-back successive victories.
Despite the fact that senior club insiders are adamant that Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains backing the manager, failure to overcome recently promoted their next opponents on the weekend will spark renewed speculation about his position heading into the upcoming two-week pause in domestic football.
"It is understandable," commented the Portugal-born coach, when questioned about Rooney's remarks. "One cannot hide from the performance."
"Additionally you have the legacy from last season, [although] that period for me is irrelevant."
Fan Reaction and Present Situation
United's followers stayed behind their manager following last season's dismal showing, when they ended up 15th in the league - their lowest showing since the 1973-74 demotion campaign - and were beaten in the European showpiece, in the hope that this season would be significantly better.
Amorim assured supporters the circumstances would change because he had more time to train with his squad without the midweek distraction of European football.
That is not how the initial six games have unfolded as Manchester United have experienced three defeats already and are currently fourteenth in the table.
Manager's Response to Questions
When questioned what assurances he could provide supporters that the position will improve, Amorim continued: "It's not moment to say, it is the moment to demonstrate."
"I analyze the fixtures in the current campaign and, for me, they are entirely distinct, but I have nothing to comment at present."
